Movie Monday: Hells Angels 69

Movie Monday: Hells Angels 69

This Movie is clearly a giant of the genre of biker films for 2 reason. Firstly It feature many members of the infamous Oakland chapter of the Hells Angels, but unlike in past films that feature true outlaws, they are central characters and have speaking roles. Sonny Barger once stated, that this film was the closest to ever mirror the true lifestyle of the wild 60's that so many films tried to immulate. Secondly, unlike many of the biker B films this one actually has a decent plot and acting! I know that may sound strange but the truth is,...

Movie Monday: On Any Sunday

Movie Monday: On Any Sunday

This 1971 Documentary by Bruce Brown, the director of the '66 Surf Classsic "Endless Summer", looks at the day to day of Motorcycle racing. Its fitting that it features Steve McQueen, because the film is full of real life rugged folks getting it done. The life of top racers who throw their bikes in the back of a Van and live off road food as they drive themselves from race to race of the circuit is pretty cool. Probably my personal highlight is the huge open desert races. The guy who races with his dog clinging to his tank the...

Monday Movie: The Death Wheelers (aka Psychoimania)

Pretty cool concept, a biker obsessed with cheating death finds his answer in the occult. Unique to most "biker films", this one is based on the  british "Rocker" biker culture before it was influenced by the Californian style. Cafe racers and Stiletto Jackets where the rage when this culture was at its peak in the 1950's and early 60's. This film is worth the watch just to see a motorcycle burst from a grave. Also tip of the hat to our friends in Quebec, who will be releasing their second album on Riding Easy Records any day now.

Monday Movies: The Hard Ride

You might have seen this one at a Guerilla movie night we co presnted last year, but if not this is the story of a soldier returning from Nam who is left his dead buddies prized possession, a pretty radical Knucklehead Chopper. The bike comes with a past though, including a woman, and a gang of outlaws who want to get their hand on both. Honestly the movie is so/so, but the quality of the bikes more than makes up for it. Long bikes with crazy sissy bars and pipes that sweep up to the heavens. If your killing time...

Monday Movie: "Bra Boys"

Monday Movie: "Bra Boys"

Now I know what your thinking, this isnt about motorcycles, what gives? For a lot of people the end goal is just having a bitchin' chopper, but at Doomsday Machine, we'd rather be riding with a real soul ridding a piece of shit bike than a total hipster on the 'coolest' knucklehead chopper. Being a biker is not just about attitude and what you wear, but about the company you keep and how you carry yourself. Some say you can't become a biker, you are born one, I don't know if we agree with that, but living by a...
